Dubai is a beautiful city, but it's only beautiful if you don't have to walk. There are few pedestrian d areas in Dubai. Authorities are actively creating walkways d for comfortable walking experience, yet they are still far from everywhere – unlike long motorway routes.
Read on, and we will tell you all about hiring a car in Dubai – how to do it and what documents you need. We'll also look at the local peculiarities of driving and talk a bit about how to navigate here easily.
How to Book a Car in Dubai
Booking a car in Dubai with Yeti is as simple and convenient as possible. Just follow these steps:
You can pick up the car from our company’s parking lot, or request delivery to a convenient location (such as the airport or another place). You can use the car in Dubai without any restrictions. If you need to extend the rental period, we recommend informing our manager in advance to coordinate the details.
Yeti Car Rental offers two types of insurance:
The deposit is a mandatory obligation of the driver/lessee towards the rental company for the entire booking period and up to 21 days after the car is returned .
The deposit amount depends on the brand and model of the vehicle.
To be short, the deposit is necessary to secure the car. If nothing happens to the car during the rental period, the customer will receive the full amount of the deposit back.
Once payment has been made, the car can be picked up between 9:00AM to 19:00 PM local time. You will need to show your original documents , IDP (if you are a visitor) and the passport.
Carefully read and sign the contract, then pay a deposit.
Please note that out-of-hours collection is only possible by prior arrangement and at least a day prior.
Returns are made according to the same schedule. Arrive on time, make sure the car is clean, and don't forget about our fuel policy.
The UAE is a right-hand car driving country. However, despite this, the high speed driver here is the one on the left. Signs here are often placed directly at the intersection of roads, so you will not have much time to think – try to plan everything in advance.
There are speed limits in the country, of course. On small streets – 40 km/h, on the main roads – 60-80 km/h, and on motorways – 100-120 km/h. There is also a permissible excess of 20 km/h, but if you exceed the speed limit even by 21 km/h, a fine won't be long coming.
The fines here are expensive . The minimum penalty for exceeding the speed limit is 600 AED.
There are a lot of radars in Dubai, and they are located literally every two or three kilometers. Sometimes more often. There are also cameras in most places..
In general, the rules are similar to that of Europe, so most people should not have any problems getting used to it.
In Dubai, there are few types of parking: commercial and city parking zones. They can do with any type of car. Paid parking is available from Monday to Saturday, 8 am to 10 pm, and on Sundays and holidays – the free one instead.
You'll also find different parking zones here. There are 11 of them in total:
In addition to zones, in Dubai parks are divided into first and second categories depending on the neighborhood. Thus, the first includes lots in Deira, Bur Dubai, and Jumeirah districts. All others are placed in the second category. To be perfectly honest, these zones do not really affect anything and the division is pretty conditional.
You can pay for parking with the help of special machines that print tickets, which then need to be attached to the windscreen of the parked car.
Well, or put inside, but in a visible place.
Alternatively, you can pay by SMS sent to 7275 with information about the car, parking code and idle time.
Some Emirates (including Dubai) have toll roads called 'Salik'or 'Darb'.
The toll is automatically added to the bill when a camera detects the car plate on the toll road.
If you rent a car from us, you may pay for all the Salik roads passed when returning the car (5 AED per gate).
You can find more detailed information about it in our FAQ section. We highly recommend you check it out.
When it comes to navigation software, you've got options like Waze or HERE WeGo. We'd say the former is generally better, but the latter can work offline, while the first operates only in an online state. These are just examples – you can use any other application you prefer. For instance, the Yango Maps.
The list of documents varies depending on whether you are a tourist or a resident. For example, the former will need a current international driving permit (we can help you obtain one), passport and credit, debit card or cash. The latter will need a valid UAE driving license, , passport, resident visa, Emirates ID, cash, credit or debit card.
Firstly, study the local traffic rules. Secondly, choose reliable companies, so you don't get scammed. And remember that cheap does not mean reliable. And also familiarize yourself with the terms and conditions of the lease.
Actually, you can rent without making a deposit. For example, if you rent a car from us, we are ready to accept as an alternative the payment of a fixed and irrevocable sum to our partners – Cardoo – a company that acts as a guarantor in case of damage to the car, non-payment of fines and other expenses, which occurred through no fault of ours.
Not always and everywhere, but we have this one. You can also make a deposit in cash, yet you should note that it will be returned only 21–26 days after the end of the rental. These numbers are for a reason: the fines can still be charged even after the car is returned, and they are allocated within this time frame.
It varies: all depends on the location of the company and the client, as well as the time of day and the traffic situation. For example, in the morning during heavy road jams, the process will take longer than in the afternoon, when most people are at work.

Anyway, on average, delivery takes from 45 minutes to 2 hours. However, it is always better to check the specific time with the company's representative in advance.
Immediately contact the police or file for a police report using the police application to report minor accidents, then after, inform the representative of the company where the hire took place.
Ensure to get a detailed report: without it, the damage cannot be covered by insurance – the client will have to pay for it instead.
Yes, we have such system in place. For each subsequent rental, a special promo code is applied, which gives a 5% discount.
The vehicle must be returned with the same fuel level as received.
Salik is an electronic toll collection system for paid roads in Dubai. It was first introduced by the RTA in 2007. The way it works is that key motorways here have electronic gates (aka Salik Gates) that vehicles pass through. Each of which registered with the system is fitted with a Salik tag (kind of sticker attached to the windscreen), which contains information about the vehicle. And when the car passes through Salik Gates, the system automatically deducts a toll from the owner's balance.
As for the roads operating under this very system, there are plenty of them:
The actual fare is paid by us, but you still have to reimburse the amount when returning the car.
Not a single chance. We have a strict confidentiality policy.
No.
Yes.
When renting a car, a deposit is standard practice. It is required in order to cover any fines and charges that may be reported during the use of the vehicle, and after it has been returned.
The deposit varies depending on the type and price of the car. For example, for economy ones it can be around 1,500-2,000 AED, and for luxury and sports cars it can be up to 15,000 AED.
On an upfront basis.
It's pretty straightforward here. If you violate the traffic rules , it's mandatory you pay. We send the fine notice received from the police to the client – it includes the amount and type of violation.
No.
If the car is returned up to one hour late, there will be no extra charge. However, if the time is longer than that, you will have to pay as if you were extending the car for another day.
You can. The lease is renewed with payment link, cash or card.
Yes its possible.
21 years of age.
Customers are required to pay while renting.
There are a lot of them. Here is just some list of countries:
Portugal, Hungary, Bulgaria, Serbia, Luxembourg, Iceland, Estonia, Cyprus, Slovakia, Slovenia, South Korea and a dozen others.
Sadly, but no. You can't.
Yeti Car Rental does not have such units. The minimum price starts from 1,500 AED per month. For this amount you can rent, for example, Nissan Micra and Sunny or Renault Symbol.
It all depends on your preferences and goals, really. Say, some classic sedan like the Mazda 6 will be a universal option, which will suit any situation: from family trips to business meetings. And in case you want to take an evening drive and surprise your friends at a party, one can't think of a better choice than a Camaro.
Yes, we can deliver the car to the airport. But for an additional fee, the minimum value of which is 126 AED.
Sure. And quite a few. You can check the full list here: https://www.yeti.ae/en/dubai/luxury-cars-for-rent-in-dubai.
As in the previous case, here is a link to find the entire list: https://www.yeti.ae/en/dubai/economy-cars-for-rent.
No. We do not provide such service.
Nissan Micra, Renault Symbol, and Nissan Sunny. But Mitsubishi Attrage and MG5 Standart are also very cheap.
Yes, it's worth it.
In fact, it will be somewhat cheaper than taking a taxi.
The thing is, Dubai is a huge city, and public transport doesn't always provide a smooth and fast ride from A to B. It's also worth bearing in mind that while there are plenty of places in here that have air conditioning, there's never enough.
At any time of the year, except winter, the heat is unbearable and staying in it for more than a few tens of minutes is an ordeal for sure.
Yes. There's not a single reason why they couldn't do it.
Yes.
There are lots of options. They're all in demand. Luxury cars, sports ones. SUVs and sedans as well.
No, the starting age is from 21 years old.
Certainly not more expensive than a cab ride. If you look at local prices, even one cab ride is often more expensive than renting a cheap car for the whole day.
This can be done at https://www.yeti.ae. The company has been on the market for 14 years, and still offers competitive prices.
No, it's more expensive.
A minimum of 1,500 AED, but this is highly dependent on both the brand and model of the car itself.
It's more cost-effective. Simple as that.
Yes, but it must be agreed with the car company beforehand.
Yes, you can. However, you will have to get the other driver by yourself – we do not provide this service. The document of the additional driver must be shared with us to get it added to the rental agreement.
Also keep in mind that it is not allowed to sublease the car.
Yes It's acceptable.
